Curators' Statement

"The work of Roger Anliker occupies the visual realms of intimacy, myth and mirage. His vision crystalizes the ineffable qualities of beauty using astonishing variety and clarity. Using the deceptively simple tools of a painter-sage, he opens the curtain on a world that is more complex than comprehendible. It is a world of the true human, where the figure is cloaked in the mirror of myth. We find that all along, the figure in that mirror is us, and that Anliker was – is – mapping our unconscious."

How Did Roger Think? Lessons from a Gouache Master | Sat. June 24, 2023, 9am – 3pm

Instructor: Dale Roberts

Ages: 18+

Price: $135

This workshop will expand upon the classroom atmosphere Roger would have cultivated. Designed by a team of his former students and led by Dale Roberts, this six-hour exploration will be directly born from Roger's challenges to his former students, as well as his notebooks, which will be on view. The workshop will uniquely utilize direct observation of a still-life akin to one Roger would have set for his students. Participants should be prepared to investigate the qualities of two mediums Roger was proficient in, gouache and metalpoint.
